Hi,
Ciao,

As of September 1980 (for the 1981 model year) the US government
required all vehicle manufactures selling cars in the US to use
a 17 digit VIN that was encoded with certain information.
The understand your cars VIN ZFAAS00B0C5003141, here is how
to "decode" it digit by digit:
Section 1, made up of 3 digits to identify country of origin and
the maker
Z = country of origin Italy
FA = Fiat's code for passenger vehicles
Section 2, made up of next 6 digits
A = indicates Spider 2000
S = indicates body type, S means convertible
0 = indicates "base" model
0 = type of restraint sytem installed, 0 means manual seat belts
B = indicates type of engine, B for Fiat indicates 2000cc
0 = this is a "check digit" prescribed by a mathematical formula
the US government uses to guard against "counterfeit" VIN's.
Section 3, made up of the final 8 digits
C = indicates the 1982 model year
5 = indicates the factory where the car was made, in this case 5
means it was built at Pininfarina's plant
003141 = the car's actual vehicle identification number

production data and part numbers
